WILDLIFE
ARTIST
C.D. HIEBERT
"As a child on the prairies, I gained
an immense
respect and fascination with nature, and as I
grow older, I hope never to lose that respect
or take it for granted."
Dave was raised
on the prairies where he recalls spending endless hours roaming the countryside observing
nature. From the beginning, these experiences found an outlet in the form of sketches,
many of which appeared in his school notebooks.
Being self taught, Dave has enjoyed a sense of pioneering in the world of art. This
pioneering spirit is also evident in his chosen lifestyle. Dave and Carrie, with
their daughters Cecilia and Jessica, live on an isolated acreage near Turtle Lake,
Saskatchewan. It was there, in 1979, that he launched his career as a full time artist.
Since then, Dave has had the honour of being featured in television programming,
newspapers, magazines and many well known galleries. Dave's reputation as a wildlife
artist has also earned commissions by groups such as Saskatchewan Parks and Renewable
Resources. Dave's popularity was marked by an introductory exhibition in 1983 when
all 30 original works of art were sold prior to the end of the showing.
Heavily commissioned, both privately and corporately, throughout his career, Dave
has steadily gained recognition as a Saskatchewan wildlife artist. From D.U. Saskatchewan
Waterfowl Artist of the Year in 1983 to painting for Prince Phillip's Royal Dinner
and Auction in 1987, Dave Hiebert is indeed being recognized by more and more as
a Canadian wildlife artist.
